Update - Australia, Dark Souls

Hrmm... so apparently I haven't blogged in a while... for an update - life is great. :D

Work sent me to Australia for 2 weeks for a Anglo met coal meet.  I did a presentation on Peace River Coal and it went excellent.  While I was down there I also visited their sites.  Dawson, Moranbah North & Capcoal.  I wont bore any one with the details, but their sites are very nice but 100% open - being a Canadian I was quite shocked to see plant buildings with no walls. XD

While I was down there I stayed in Brisbane mostly - very beautiful city!  I also did an eco tour at Tamborine Mountain and went to the Koala animal sanctuary.  As well as shopping for suvinears for the family. :)  Unfortunately I really wanted to do a tour to Morton Island for some sand dune surfing and snorkeling but didn't have time.  There is always next time. :)

I'm also currently doing a leadership development course - quite good stuff if your willing to learn from it. :D

For games - I'm completely addicted to Dark Souls.  I watched Aaron play through Demon souls (yes he did beat the whole first one :D) and I tried Demon souls for a little bit right before Dark Souls came out.  Not enough to really get into it but just enough as an intro to the mechanics.  So far both of us are completely absorbed in the sequel and both of us really like the changes they did make.  The enemies are just has hard in the sequel but one thing they did make easier is the campfires throughout the level so you don't have to re-start the whole thing to level up and use your souls.  They also got rid of mana and is using spell charges (not foreign if you play D&D or older Final Fantasy series, etc...) .  I think this also makes it a bit easier for beginner casters as the first one the only way to re-charge your mana early game was to purchase the mana pots... which more or less forced people to play as melee at the beginning - which isn't entirely bad since you still have to learn melee when playing any character - original or sequel.  They also got rid of health regain items and now you just start with x # where you recharge those + your spell charges at the campfires.  With the removal of these items the drop rates have decreased accordingly.  They have also seemingly removed your stash... You hold everything with you but only the stuff you have equipped goes against your weight capacity.  Now I only wish you could do something with the equipment that you pick up but don't use.  Skyrim has a really cool idea on what to do with your old equipment. :D

I'm also lightly back into Aion as I wait for SW:TOR and Skyrim.  I haven't pre-ordered my copy of Skyrim yet... I really should!
